• The Dow Jones Industrial Average .DJI fell 91.74 points, or 0.36 percent, to 25,706.68, the S&P 500 lost 0.71 points, or 0.03 percent, to 2,809.21 and the Nasdaq Composite .IXIC dropped 2.79 points, or 0.04 percent, to 7,642.70.
Wall Street’s major indexes edged lower after a choppy session on Wednesday after the Federal Reserve showed broad agreement on the need to raise borrowing costs further, cementing investor concerns that had helped cause a major sell-off the week before.
• Stocks in Asia were broadly lower on Thursday morning following a turbulent session on Wall Street overnight.
• In Japan, the Nikkei 225 was slightly lower in early trade, while the Topix index saw mild gains. Over in South Korea, the Kospi fell by 0.21 percent, with shares of chipmaker SK Hynix dropping by 1.56 percent.
• The ASX 200 fell back into negative territory in the morning, trading lower by 0.28 percent. The heavily weighted financials subindex lost its earlier gains to slip by 0.15 percent, while the energy sector saw a decline of 1.14 percent and materials fell by 0.92 percent.
