· Dow jumps 150 points, Apple leads Nasdaq to record close
Stocks rose on Monday, building on solid gains from last week, as shares of major tech companies led the way higher on Wall Street.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 153.50 points, or 0.6%, to close at 26,024.96. The Nasdaq Composite posted a record closing high, advancing 1.1% to 10,056.47. The S&P 500 ended the session up 0.7% at3,117.86. The major averages briefly pared some of their gains towards the end of the session, after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott told reporters the coronavirus is spreading at an unacceptable rate.
Apple shares jumped more than 2% and hit a record high after the company made a slew of announcement at its annual WorldWide Developers Conference. The tech giant unveiled the latest version of iOS, its mobile operating system. Apple also said its new Mac computers will no longer use Intel chips.
But the number of newly confirmed coronavirus cases across the U.S. and elsewhere in the world continues to increase, raising questions about the global economic recovery.

European stocks closed lower on Monday as investors reacted to a surge in coronavirus cases in the U.S., and growing concerns over a rise in infections in Germany.
The pan-European Stoxx 600 ended down 0.7%, with almost all sectors in negative territory.
· Asia Pacific stocks rise as Nasdaq touches record closing high
Stocks in Asia Pacific edged higher in Tuesday morning trade following gains on Wall Street that saw the Nasdaq Composite touching a record closing high.
South Korea’s Kospi led gains among the region’s major markets as it jumped 1.2% in early trade. Over in Japan, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.86% in early trade while the Topix index added 0.61%.
Meanwhile, the S&P/ASX 200 in Australia advanced 0.47%.
Overall, the MSCI Asia ex-Japan index traded 0.38% higher.
The moves regionally came on the back of positive momentum overnight stateside. The Nasdaq Composite posted a record closing high as it advanced 1.1% to 10,056.47 while the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose153.50 points, or 0.6%, to end its trading day at 26,024.96. The S&P 500 closed 0.7% higher at 3,117.86.
