• The Dow Jones Industrial Average .DJI was up 1.92 points, or 0.01 percent, to 20,658.02, the S&P 500 .SPX gained 1.62 points, or 0.07 percent, to 2,357.16 and the Nasdaq Composite .IXIC added 3.11 points, or0.05 percent, to 5,880.93.

U.S. stocks ended a choppy session slightly higher on Monday as gains in energy shares offset losses in financials ahead of quarterly corporate earnings later this week.

• Global stock markets were pressured on Tuesday as rising tensions in the Middle East and political uncertainty in Europe kept investors on edge, underpinning safe assets such as the yen, gold and Treasuries.

• MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan .MIAPJ0000PUS was flat, while Tokyo's Nikkei .N225 slipped 0.55 percent, dragged lower by a stronger yen.
